5 Steps to Manifesting your Dream Job

5 Steps to Manifesting Your Dream Job

Manifesting your dream job may conjure up images of tarot cards, magic potions or wishing wells where you put your intentions out to the universe and hope for the best. But actually, it’s more structured and doable than that.
You may be following some of these strategies already. But if not, now’s the time to start.

1. Figure out what your dream job actually is.

Before you even start the process of attracting the right job to you, there needs to be focus and an intent towards the kind of job you actually want.
Being wishy washy about a few different things you ‘might’ like to do isn’t going to work. You need a single goal you can focus on – like, ‘I want to work as front of house at a three-hatted restaurant by the end of 2021’. Or, ‘I will start my own pop-up coffee cart within the next six months’. Hint: you want to choose the kind of job you know you’ll be excited to get out of bed for, and that will bring you joy and reward (not just big bucks).

2. Visualise what that job actually looks like.

Visualisation may sound a bit hippy-dippy, but this practice of repeatedly imagining what you want to achieve is used by everyone from successful athletes to CEOs.
If you’re job-seeking for your dream role, you might want to write down what your job will look like, where it might be based or what you might be doing once you’re in the role. Even finding pictures of people doing your dream job and sticking them up onto a vision board or the fridge so you see those images multiple times a day can help you visualise that future for yourself.
Using your thoughts to visualise the future you want is super important when you’re job-seeking. Keep your eye (and your thoughts) on the prize ahead.

3. Change your thinking.

Studies show we have approximately 6000 thoughts per day – and that’s a lot of opportunity to think positively or negatively. And countless research suggests that due to negative bias, we’re much more likely to pay attention to negative thoughts than positive ones.
Of course, to manifest a dream job or a future you’re excited about, it’s up to you to balance the scales in terms of those positive thoughts. One fun idea is to practice the ‘bounce’ method, where you bounce off every negative thought with a positive one. So instead of thinking, ‘I haven’t stopped all day, this job totally sucks’ you might reframe it as, ‘This has actually been a really productive day and I’m looking forward to relaxing later on’.

4. Believe you can get there.

Yep, you guessed it – self-belief is hugely important in manifesting a job you love.
Random thoughts come and go, but targeted, persistent thoughts that tell you that you believe you can achieve something can have a lot of power, say experts.
One way to reinforce your belief that you are going to meet your goal is by affirmations, such as:
  • ‘I deserve a job I love, and it’s coming my way very soon’
  • ‘I’m creating the career of my dreams’
  • ‘Right now, the right people are reading my CV’
  • ‘I’m always open to great new opportunities coming my way’
  • ‘This month I will attract my dream job’
Create affirmations that appeal to you, and stick them up somewhere where you’ll see them a lot. Repeating them and taking them in can create that positive mindset you need for success.

5. Take proactive steps towards your goal

If you know you need to upskill in order to be considered for the type of career you want, get cracking. Pay for training. Start doing courses. Remember, do everything with the intent of reaching your goal.
Perhaps you know that the best way to your dream job is to network with the right people – so do that. Find out the organisations you need to contact. Go to conferences where you can meet and mingle with the right people. Create large social networks. Whether you believe in luck or not, it’s been proven that lucky people create, notice and act upon the chance opportunities in their lives. And your next one could just be that dream job you’re looking for.
